Iran is actually a very educated and civilized country, in general. Most Americans think they're Arabs, but in fact, they're Persians. You know, as in the cats, the rugs etc., and their contributions to medicine, mathematics, philosophy, and science are many.

Sure, their president is a little whacky, maybe even dangerous, but the people are, in many ways, like Americans. Ahcmadinajad ( I know, this is misspelled, but I'm much too lazy to look it up right now.) will be up fore re-election in less than two years, and I feel confident he will get voted out. The citizens of Iran are not exactly wild about him.

As for the tasteless cartoon, it's an insult to the whole country and every one of i...

I don't have to like it, but I defend their freedom to print it.
Editorial cartoons, political satire, appeal to those who share the position taken and offend those who don't.
free speech is never popular with everyone.

Persians as in Cyrus...and Darius who took out Babylon. Remember the phrase "handwriting on the wall"?

It's interesting what people consider 'disgusting'.

You realize that this kind of symbols, the equating of entire nations or races of people with insects (specially roaches) has being used to justify genocide, right?

And what do Darius and Cyrus have to do with anything? Are the Iranian people to blame for the sins of their ancestors?

It is racist and bigoted and therefore disgusting. I thought that you would be be able to see that.

I wasn't agreeing with the portrayal at all; however the racism and bigotry work both ways. It's everywhere despite some people's attempts to stamp it out.

My husband has two Iranian tennis friends. They are smart, polite and serious about everything they do. And they are very pro-American. (maybe that's why I think they are smart)

My mention of Darius and Cyrus was just a historical note.

There is a less offensive interpretation to this cartoon. You see that the roaches are coming to Iran from other countries by being sucked into the drain that is Iran. I don't think the artist is necessarily comparing Iranians to roaches, but rather he is saying that Iran is a haven for terrorists who are attracted to the country's support of their anti-Western ideas.
