A backlash against criticism. Don't like criticism, do they. The "Royal Word" cannot be criticized. Bit testy on this one.

Who the hell is going to silence the Pope?

He,literally, has the biggest bully pulpit in the world!

For once I believe the Pope is right but, none of us want to deal with people being responsible. We would rather throw money at it to solve the problem. Why is it that such a high percentage of aids is coming from this part of the world? Is it because of a lack of condoms?

Just call people names when you can't answer the opposition.

The pope doesn't realize that he has no right to dictate terms to anyone who is not a Catholic; this is a failing of many religious leaders (the Dalai Lama is a notable exception). Many religious people who are merely rank and file flockers also fall into this arrogance, assuming that their opinions are the only valid ones - including you, jay8h.

@Jay,
I think it is responsible to stop the spread of disease through the use of a condom just like it is responsible to hand-wash to prevent the spread of disease. Why is it so different when it involves the genitals? It is totally illogical to think otherwise.

No, and I never said that or implied it. I only said that he should realize that his authority does not extend to people who do not recognize it, i.e., non-Catholics. If a non-C wants to agree with him or follow his dictates, that's a choice. But if he tells ME, personally, not to use condoms, I am not required to listen and obey. Similarly, I am not bound by the pronouncements of Dobson, Robertson, Graham, Wildmon et. al.

I do, however, happen to be of the opinion that the pope is wrong to oppose condom use, and is irresponsible in implying that they do not work in preventing disease or even make the problem worse.

Who cares about the opinion of an ex-member of the Nazi party and a fascist supporter. Hopefully JPII has condemned himself to his religion's unique brand of hellfire and brimstone for his substantial sins, which include:

. Beatifying Croation fascist Archbishop Alojzije Stepinac, who supported the genocide of hundreds of thousands of Orthodox Serbs, Jews, and Roma in WWII;

. Praying at the the grave of pro-fascist & pro-Nazi convicted war criminal Stepinac in Zagreb in 1998 where he was photographed;

. Belonging to an organisation (the Vatican) whose members (Croation Roman Catholic priests) helped fascist war criminals to escape through underground routes and channels at the end of ...
