I was pleased to discover that there was actually coverage of the protest rallies at the Republican National Convention this week.

Iraq Veterans Against the War had an impressive display of former troops: End the Occupation. Care for the Vets. Pay for Restorations, was their slogan.

A man named Elliot Adams of Veterans For Peace gave a good speech and quoted from Frederick Douglas:

" If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and deprecate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground, they want rain without thunder and lightning. "

An Iraqi veteran from a group, Answer Coalition, Michael Prysner, had like a poem...a nuclear bomb...

An Iraqi veteran from a group, Answer Coalition, Michael Prysner, had like a poem...a nuclear bomb strength poem/rap that was perhaps the most forceful speech of the day:

The introduction to this was him saying:
"Mike addressed the crowd, "I was sent to Iraq in 2003 not to save the Iraqi people, but to kill the Iraqi people. I was sent not to free the Iraqi people, but to imprison and torture the Iraqi people. I was sent not to liberate Iraq, but to occupy Iraq. There is no longer any question that this war was not for so-called “Iraqi freedom”, it was not an act of self-defense, and it was not simply a foreign policy error by the republican party- it was a well-calculated plan carried out by both parties to dominate the Middle East, killing as many innocent people as necessary and profiting from that human suffering."

Then he started:

"Not one more dime for....

Not one more dime for...

Not one more dime for...

Not one more dime."

Then the massive group, ten thousand strong, went marching off to the Republican Convention Center, chanting:

"Who's the Biggest Terrorists in the World Today? Bush, Cheney and the CIA!"
