zasel says: What a sad state of affairs that our great country should be suffering through such a low level of pride and satisfaction of its citizens. This is another indication of what the Bush administration has done to our nation. I reject your assessment. The sad state of affairs is caused by the increase in "terrorist" attacks against Western Civilization, nursed by the media and the ability of the average "joe" to know about it. The "gridlock" is a common occurrence within our governmental system. The rising gas prices is a combination of multiple components... the least of which is the failure to become self-sufficient and seek our own sources of energy; having been locked into an old way of doing things and the fear of harming the environment. Protecting the environment and making the US energy self-sufficient are not mutually exclusive though the current trend is to make us think so. I and those in my peri... Jatfla, I have to disagree. I am a Conservative. I like GWB as a man. However, as a President, He may be one of this Nations worst. We need to deal with that. He has done nothing about the border, he has starpped our troops and not let them fight to win, he has not communicated his strategy and has allowed this Country to be bitterly divided ( I believe on purpose ). He is arrogant, not very bright, and incompetent. Take the blinders off and we may be able to get a real President elected in 2008. If not, Conservatives will lose in 2008 and so will our troops. I think it is simply a fact of losing the war. Not the one in Iraq, but the one in the media. The president has been too slack to use his power to talk about the good things happening in Iraq, the amazing economy, and the rapidly decreasing deficit. On the other hand, the media has done their best to talk down the economy and is all too eager to print every bit of bad news coming from Iraq while ignoring any of the good. They also blur the line (I think intentionally) between sectarian and terrorist violence to make terrorist attacks seem like act of civil war. So I think both the administration and the media are to blame. But Willhelm makes a very good point. It would be wrong to characterize Bush as evil or nefarious. His personality has its faults, as do all of ours, but the question of leadership is separate from both the condition of his eternal soul, and the failure or success of his policies. At first he was simply a man I strenously disagreed with. Now I can confidently say he is a bad president. Why? Because he has made a lot of bad decisions, and failed to correct them until it was too late, which is the duty of a good leader. Because when his administration and the GOP fell out of fashion, he was unable to lead his party out of the wilderness, so to speak. And because he has failed to unite America... |
