nedhamson1 says: Read this clip and see if you can support this bill. If yes, support it! For some reason, this bill concerns me particularly in view of the sponsors of it. I found this on the web: "Ed Markey (D-MA) and Anna Eshoo (D-CA) last week introduced HR 3458, The Internet Freedom Preservation Act of 2009 (PDF). This bill is much better than past bills in that it doesn't contain any prohibition on classes of service or preferential treatment of packets based on protocol or application, as opposed to based on source, destination, or owner. It still, however, gives the FCC new powers to regulate the Internet and puts the onus of developing specific regulations on the FCC. And it looks like the language will give the FCC the power to regulate Apple's iTunes store with resp... Good points all. I don't have problems with the President but with Conress - yes. You are probably right and I will look at those points more closely. Need to communicate with others on that committee to be sure those issues you raised are discussed. The biggest problem is that Congress has gotten used to passing broad laws and then leaving it to "regulators" and "public" or interested "parties" to work out the details. That opens the door for those who are paid to attend all meetings, meet with legislators, their staffers - in short for-profit and non-for profit lobby firms. So the more specific the bill passed the better or no bill that leaves the door open too far to change no one really voted for. |
