I take care of my mother, who has dementia, and I pray every day this does not happen, though she is already suspect of other family members, and does not trust them. One forum for caregivers that I visit now and then has many examples of this happening, as well as forgetting people altogether. It is extremely hard on everyone involved. A curious find in the cases of dementia/alzheimer sufferers is metals absorbed into the brain in large amounts, and this has been linked to the cause.
