masbury says: .5M kids died during sanctions before 2003. 122k children died in 2005 alone. The Bush administration is doing to them what they ( the Bush admin ) do to us. No health care for children. And forget about food stamps. Hope they ( Bush admin ) all go to Hell for their so called Christian ways. They're preparing future of Al Qaeda. U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East manifests itself most starkly in its impact on the children of Iraq. It is they who continue to pay with their lives and futures for the brutal follies of our administration. Starvation under sanctions and death and suffering during war and occupation are their lot. Since the beginning of the occupation, Iraqi children have been affected worst by the violence generated by the occupying forces. And don't forget the complicity of the U.S. media whose job it is to shield Americans from the evil their government undertakes. "Meanwhile NBC Nightly News has done 2-3 segments on a two-year-old little girl from Hadditha who has been brought to the US for heart surgery, compliments of the US military. Last night’s segment dealt with her happy homecoming, with the military, the media and the child’s parents all patting themselves on the back for a job well done." I can't understand how Americans can remain unmoved by the plight of the children of our war. I just can't. Anyone have insights on this? Religion, sex, and TV.. Who cares? American Apathy by Jim Pinto I had a LOT of feedback on my complaints about the quiet Generation-Q. Some even thought I was inciting another Kent State rebellion - which I wasn't. I was simply pointing out that today's young people make their protests via websites and blogging, when more in-your-face activism is needed. But "activism" on what? Today in the US, there are many real and serious threats to our way of life. But many people, perhaps even most, are apathetic. We just don't seem to care enough to really DO anything about anything. We are surrounded by a cacophony of bad news and warnings - future social-security bankruptcy, education and heal... I can't understand how Americans can remain unmoved by the plight of the children of our war. I just can't. Anyone have insights on this?We were told they are the enemy. Weapons of mass destruction, collusion with terrorists, the evil dictator axis of evil. And the message from the top was that you aren't even American if you're not "with us" you're against us. And it was hallowed through the churches and the media and congress said "the Patriot Act is what we need!" But underneath, we were really after the oil! Now at over $100 a barrel, the plan was right, but it backfired. The cost now outweighs the potential gain by many magnitudes. Saving face means admitting we were... We're proud of our might, we're proud of our heroes. Our pride is no different now than was the pride of Imperial Japan when it invaded Manchuria or Nazi Germany when It invaded Poland. "Always to be right, always to trample forward, and never to doubt. Are these not the great qualities with which dullness takes the lead in the world?" .....Thackery, Vanity Fair It's always the children unfortunately that suffer the most. I can't help but cry when I see how they are suffering. I feel the same when I see a child anywhere in the world who has needs not being met. @Kauaiguy: I liked Jim Pinto's words, except got creeped out by this: Some even thought I was inciting another Kent State rebellion - which I wasn't.There was no rebellion at Kent State, of course. There were some kids out in public, opposing a war. They were confronted by inexperienced troops, ordered to fix bayonets (!) and advance on the crowd. Soldiers got nervous and opened fire on the kids. One killed was an ROTC student who was just passing from one class to another. No one ever stood trial for the murders. I can still feel the dread I felt that day from three states away. Ditto.. I think your ought to get an award for MOST CONSCIENTIOUS CLIPPER. I would like to add this clip to the discussion. It goes to a link which features Photographs of the faces of the children who have been wronged by this war. I can't believe that the hardest, cold-hearted, politician could look at these photos and not have a small trickle of compassion for what they have done. http://clipmarks.com/clipmark/D309B135-E3B3-4EC6-9039-EE6F10E95FA0/ Excellent clip - thanks! @kauaiguy - that's a moving compliment - many thanks! |
