It's a cop-out; Pelosi could end the war this afternoon. It doesn't take 60 votes to do so. The war is continued by appropriations bills. All Pelosi has to do is say, "Mr. President, we won't be bringing more war appropriations bills to the House floor. There's enough money in the pipeline to bring the troops home." And it's over. But Democrats, fearing the firestorm of criticism that they "abandoned our troops," and having disunity about whether troops should actually remain there or not, lack the courage to do it, and blame the continued war on the Repubs. But war doesn't continue unless the party in power funds it. Good point Masbury. There are some many lies and false words and ideas involved in our current policies of imperialism and warmongering that it would be hard to even count. This whole idea of 60 votes required to pass the Senate, for example, is one of them. It doesn't take 60 votes to pass ANY legislation in Congress. The Constitution is quite clear that our legislative body, in accord with parliamentary procedure (and most ruling bodies) required a simple majority: 51% of the vote. Needing 60-votes is a lie. Although it IS a trite and polite current guideline and Senate rule -- A SIMPLE MAJORITY VOTE OF 51% can change this AND ALL RULES in our Congress. And every legislature knows it.
