I can understand residents of a college town not wanting college students voting in their town. After all, most are only there 4 to 5 years and then they move on. They pay sales taxes, maybe income taxes, gas taxes, but inherently they are not residents, they're temporary, they have their own little community. My thought if they are so committed to voting, why not vote absentee from where they came (oh yes, that's inconvenient and time consuming, we have to think about it before hand), they should have a better grasp of the issues there. As a MO. resident, I would not like out-of-state students voting on state issues, they can't possibly understand the rural vs. city/suburban split that our state has or the them vs. us mindset.

What a blatantly partisan attack! There is no proof that the Virginian Lawmakers were trying to stop the students from voting-because they were registering as democrats. They just did not want them voting as residents of Virginia. They even tried to assist them to get pre-registered as absentee voters for their home addresses. Even the Obama camp says 'there doesn't appear to be any partisanship evolved here'.

Satchamo, I agree with you. However, do you believe the Republicans would be pursuing this if the kids were registering Republican???

To deb2012, I'm just talking from my perspective as a Missourian not a Republican or a Democrat, with our rural/suburban split. Being a college student in a large city in MO. for 4 to 6 years can't possibly help them understand why outstate/rural Missourians think & vote as we do. They will probably move on and not be paying the bill or having to live with the laws/people elected. Since I've lived here for over 50 years, I'd like to think I know a little bit more about how MO. operates.

50 years in rural MO explains a lot.
