I don't know any persons with what I am inclined to call a great mind who would not be aware of the shortcomings of their thoughts. Socrates is only one example, Albert Einstein is another:
"Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former."
Maybe there is a portion of irony in such sayings on that score; but I see it as the great minds' intrinsic self-irony, by which they may be able to bear the woe about the borders of human cognition. Nietzsche's Morgenröte quote is nothing else but an stone-cold expression of that, which, by the way, is the very core of Kant's epistemology.
