I've done this but from under a tressle, standing on the concrete slab. You stick your head up thru the ties and there is enough clearance. The only thing you must watch for is the wayward air connection that sometimes dangles down and drags

Train surfing was a bit of a fad here for a while. A few died and it lost it's appeal.
I suppose the above is a form of initiation, as there are no bears around to pluck the whiskers from.

I dunno. Those that choose to do such have an increased chance of fatality vs those that don't so that group is less likely to pass on their genes.

This is needed to be done fast, because if one is appearing before the train too long before and machinist could see him and start breaking, so they run on the rails just before the train so he couldn’t start breaking and fell down on the rails, then the train moves above the person at his maximum speed, just a few inches from his head and back.
