thisnamecantbetaken says: Corruption Central. Why do they tape these things? A little Saturday night entertainment? Torture training 101? "the evil that men do lives after them, the good is oft interred with their bones" AKA destroying the evidence. grrr It does say they're the CIA. Isn't being secret part of their job? Maybe the NYT is just upset because now they don't get a chance to leak them. Since "the US does not torture" and are soooo upright and moral, what would it matter, if the tapes were leaked? Can they not stand by their noble actions? By their own admission, the tapes had "no intelligence value", so why would they pose a national security risk? (No value, yet they chose to hide them from the Federal court, though asked to hand them over.) He who has nothing to hide, hides nothing. Could it be, people would be outraged at what the tapes showed? It's not like there would be anything illegal, incriminating or outright horrendous and WRONG on those tapes, right? Nothing to be ashamed of, right? Naaah, perish the thought. It happened before in the 70's It will happen again See this clip then reference the source for the full story comparison You do have to wonder about this apparent American predeliction to take pictures and make videos of it's own war crimes, like Abu Gharib. Nevertheless, there is lots of flack about this and it's story has only just begun. It seems: 1. Lawyers in a federal court case asked for this type of evidence. 2. The 9/11 Commision asked for this type of evidence. 3. The White House number one lawyer at the time said NOT to destroy these tapes. There are apparent potential crimes, therefore, of perjury and/or obstruction of justice. Not to mention that "waterboarding" (bring someone to the point of drowning) is against the Geneva Conventions and was a war crime for which Japanese soldiers were hung by... The things made me a bit confused. But one thing is sure that every action has been taken with a purpose.May be there is a sign of corruption. But one should think positive for their intelligent system. Anyhow its a better idea to make a movie with the story. |
