Well most Sam's Clubs might be posting declines, but I was in the Cape Girardeau store, January 29, to buy a $1000 generator because of the huge ice storm in Southeast MO. While I waited for my pickup to arrive, I counted 20 generators being loaded in less than a half hour's time. When I came back 5 hours later, to pick up something else I'd forgotten, the $1000 generators were still being loaded into pickup trucks. I'm sure I helped boost their sales that day, even if I only bought 1 generator. Basically this was the only place to find a generator that week--no one else had sufficient stock on hand when the ice storm hit, and Home Depot, Lowes, etc. all sold out, but Sam's Club was stil...

I heard, but cannot verify, that when the weather predictions came in the week before, that every generator they had anywhere in the US was shipped to Cape Girardeau, Paducah, KY & Louisville, KY. We may love to hate them for their marketing practices, but in this case, when the chips were down, I was able to get a generator to use until power was restored. If one has no well (no electric, pump won't run--no water), no heat, only could cook on gas stove, no refrigeration--one appreciates their effort of having what the customer needs/wants. Yes, I'm a small business owner, but its a boat/marine business--not much I can get at Sam's Club except bookkeeping/paper supplies, printer/copy machine, computer, fax machine, pens & pencils to use in my business.
