I like this idea. Anything to get people - especially kids - drinking less soda is good in my opinion.

I wish they never invented this very addictive drink. Not to mention the dental bills.

I've been advocating this for year.. 'cept I want the tax places on ALL unhealthy/junk foods... Pop, chips, candy, fast-food, etc...

Speaking of which I have a bag of chocolate around here somewhere... mm.. chocolate...

PS: I'd take the monies from those taxes and use them to subsidize vegetables & fruit (as well as lean read meat & poultry)

Knowing the government, they would also end up taxing any beverage that comes in a bottle from diet sodas to water.

You're kidding...right? The great thing about this country is your right to stupidity, to succeed or fail. These "corrective" taxes by GovCo nannystaters must end! Lunacy pop!

Let's remember that the "taxing" strategy did nothing to curb smokers from smoking or drinkers from drinking. While it "sounds like a good idea" it is not a solution or successful intervention for the problem.

If we've learned anything from anti-smoking campaigns, successful strategies are a result of making changes to the environment. Environmental changes are the most effective motivators for people to stop smoking. Ie. "no smoking in eating establishments or bars, no smoking on the beach, no smoking in public places,and/or restricting smoking to smoking rooms appear to have the best effect.

For a view at some environmental interventions that apply to schools visit a new blogsite:
