You won't find many second jobs either. They are taken by others in your situation.
The good jobs that might be available to you will be so swamped with applicants you will likely be overlooked or backburnered if someone is younger and fresher.
The further you will have to drive will cut your pay even more. Your beefits will be less and your medical coverage will cost more. Pre-existing conditions with new medical will exclude coverage for some of your illnesses.
Then, when you do find a job you will be expected to do even more for less pay. Some will thrive but most will quit ...

Unemployment statistics are based on the people getting unemployment and are registered. Once your benefits run out you are no longer part of the statistic so unemployment stats will drop. You will be in limbo.

If you have been laid off you might not want to hold out for that 'Best Job' because as more people lose their jobs the "best Jobs" will get harder and harder to find.

I'm Looking for a better job, but I'm hanging on to this one for dear life while I'm doing it. My hours have been cut to 30 per week and my medical went up. Its a 40 mile round trip just to the next nearest town. Gas just went up again. Bills are now carrying a balance and I fight shut-off notices monthly.

I clipped this so I could stir some discussion about how we handle unemployment, joblessness and lower paying jobs. What is your situation? Would you work for minimum wage if that was all you could find?
