ljsdesign says: Some have even banned holding hands. just sad. That is just plain crazy. What next, will they start monitoring our thoughts? Heaven forbid I should think something nice about about you! It's actually not a terrible laws, health-wise, since most colds and diseases like chicken pox are generally spread at school, especially since some states have passed laws that automatically fails students with more that X number of absences. If only everyone washed their hands! On the other hand, not being allowed to hug a friend is a bit much. At 41, I still hug friends I haven't seen in a while, or when we're parting. It would be an imposition on my personal freedom for anyone to forbid me to do so. I feel for the kids. I hug my friends daily. That's a problem created by a few which all have to face. "bans against public displays of affection" Says it all really. I wonder if the punishment is as severe against those who intimidate, bully and disparage others. Or do we think they'll just turn a blind eye...? As of my graduation in 2002, my High School had still failed to act on a Sexual Harassment complaint I made about another student GROPING me during an English class where the teacher asked that we all close our eyes while he read Poe's The Pit and the Pendulum. It was designed to get a better grasp on the imagery. All Stanley got out of it was a firm grasp of my upper thigh, and I got a firm grasp of his face when I slapped him. The Guidance Councelor argued that I must have misconstrued his actions as something "dirty", surely I should understand, as I hug "the boys all the time". He was referring to a male friend of mine that I had known since first grade. The Counselor added that if anyth... @randiknott That is so wrong. I hope someone gets that counselor fired with no chance of working in the field again. Marks the beginning of The Secret Love Society See also the clips Girl, 13, gets detention for hugging two friends and Ill. student gets detention for hugging. I encourage and call on all juveniles who have to live under such school rules to hug eachother demonstratively, bravely hazarding the consequences. I spur their parents into action: Stop schools making robots of your daughters and sons! I popped both of those. Their going to give the kids the impression that all human contact is sexual. Another problem is that this policy fixes nothing. This started because the school repeatedly ignored a students complaints of sexual harassment by a peer until they were finally sued for not protecting that student. Where's the new policy on handling complaints from students? Where's the education on sexual harassment of peers? Check out Randiknott comments, the school failed her and insulted her to boot. |
