Note the language used by Eid in dismissing the gravity of the case: the case isn't serious because they were "more aspirational, perhaps, than operational"? Well, when it was the Liberty Seven -- black Muslim men who were described by the FBI as "aspirational rather than operational" -- there was no hesitation by the Justice Department in bringing charges.

Another funny thing: When a black man in prison sent a threatening letter containing baby powder to John McCain, Troy Eid brought down the full force of the law, complete with press conferences and public declarations that "We won't stand for threats of this kind in Colorado."

But when it’s a claque of white men with rifles, disguises, and all the accoutrement of a conspiracy – as well as open admissions to it – Troy Eid isn’t worried. After all, they just a bunch of harmless, tweakers, right? … Just like little Timmy McVeigh.

You won't see stuff like this in the so called "liberal" media.

The REAL Napster
You are grasping at straws here.
The three men arrested had a scoped rifle to make the worlds longest (and impossible shot)well over 750 yards. If you read the police reports and follow-up the 3 methheads were not capable of carrying out such a plot to fruition.

ON the other hand people have been killed in this country by ANTHRAX being sent via postal mail, so that threat is not only a possible one, but proven one.
Try sending some baby powder in an envelope via U.S. mail to ANYONE and watch what happens. Note- You may be gone for a long while.

I am not grasping at straws, this is what the FBI wanted to do, and the Justice Department (as the clip clearly shows) has indicted men for much less. Also, even if the rifle shot would have reached Obama, imagine the panic inside a crowed convention hall or a packed stadium. Their is at least two viable charges here, conspiracy to commit murder, and attempted murder.

Also the FBI and the Minneapolis Police Department raided homes this weekend with much less info.

Also depending on the rifle, a marksman can hit a target up to a mile and a half away., so 750 yards may be a difficult shot, but entirely possible. And if you kill someone else even if the main target is not hit, that is still murder.

Key words: Marksman. Methheads are not that good. They'd be lucky not to shoot themselves or fall off the roof first.

The distinction you made was that Obama was treated differently than McCain. He was not. Because a suspect professes to commit a crime does not mean they are even capable of said crime. Remember, law 101.

They plan, gathered the equipment and took steps to commit their plan. Just because you might not be a good bank robber or may not have a chance in Hell to escape doesn't mean that if you do the deed or takes steps to plan, organize and commit the deed then you haven't committed a crime.

Were the only real steps they made. It never made it past that.

The weapons charges stood on their own regardless of the intent.

Interesting discussion - just wondering what would happen if these guys were of Middle Eastern descent and had been targeting Palin.
