This implies that the Mind (Consciousness, Awareness, Spirit [?]) preexisted hearing, and that hearing was Mind's first Resistance (detection system) to stimuli external to itself as a means of reflectively understanding itself, as it were.

Literally making "sense" of what's out there.

Perhaps there is a more scientific significance to the Aramaic word Ephphetha, which means, "be opened," when, in Mark 7:34, Jesus touched the deaf man's ears and said Ephphetha.
