I wonder why we I am not upset by having an animal butchered for my meal, yet lab grown meat sounds so gross...?

The protiens gained from meat is why we are eyes front predators. Perhaps our next step in evolution will be dictated by our ability to get those protiens without hunting and killing. Perhaps that is what ET is waiting for us to discover. (tongue in cheek)

Does anyone remember that scene in The Fly (with Jeff Goldblum) where he sent a piece of meat through the transporter? Geena Davis spit the meat out, then she said "there is something wrong with this." That scene always springs to mind when I read about this.

Is there a life essence residual in the meat of a living being?
