It was a beautiful evening and so warm for late winter. I wanted to just hold her hand as we entered the restaurant, but I knew that could be inviting a range of reactions such as indifference to outright violence. A friend and her husband were sitting nearby talking to us and she kissed him--Awwwwww . . . was the reaction and deservingly so--they are such a cute couple, but again I got wistful thinking, or maybe wishful, who knows?

"We have a long way to go but I'm glad the tides are turning. I hope eventually we reach a point where people just grow up and stop treating people like shit because of something they have no control over."

Sometimes I feel like it's so difficult and I get so tired. I never get used to it.

I saw a couple one time walking near where I live. They were holding hands, he was on his cell phone staring off into space looking one way not smiling. She was doing the same. It was sad. Behind them was another couple, holding hands, he looked down said something and laughed. He looked up, said something back, laughed and smiled. They continued on down the street swinging their hands held together. They made me smile. Oops, I forgot the most important thing, he kissed him and he kissed him back.

Here's the way I'm learning to see life. We spend far too much time worrying about what other people think. The reality is NONE of us will EVER win the approval of EVERY human being.

We have a choice therefore, to get stuck in the victim mode and bemoan the rejection/criticism of the world or we can have the chutzpah to simply get on with this business of living in the face of opposition.

It's taken me all my life to realise that if we live our lives waiting for approval from others we will go to our graves bitterly disappointed, and I for one am done with playing the victim in my own life.

Nevertheless, that does not mean that rejection and criticism do not hurt. They do and always wi...

You have some good points, and my whole point of clipping things such as this is to spurn social change. It's difficult to imagine being a victim of a hate crime just for being a person of a different color or gay or lesbian. Gays have to watch themselves and never quite be who they are out in public or risk that.
But times they are a changing
