CrazyRedHead says: From the article: It is useful as a face cream for the same reason - the more moisture that can be retained in the skin, the plumper and less wrinkled it looks. Dry skin conditions, including eczema and even psoriasis, benefit from this added moisturisation too, but also from the fact that a Vaseline barrier reduces the penetration of irritants. "Eczema is probably caused by allergy-causing molecules getting into the skin," says Prof Hawk. "Any occlusive moisturiser would help to prevent this, but Vaseline is more bland than most, there are no perfumes or colourants, so it is less likely to cause irritation." i like aquafor better-- iuse that for everything i wouldn't use petroleum based products. A good alternative plant based oil or cream. I swear by pure jojoba oil. The natural oil on our skin provides a barrier between our systems and the outside world. When we wash, the oil is stripped off, and is replaced by our skins' with a new layer. Sometimes through weakness, disease, injury, or allergy, the replenishing ability of the skin can be curbed or disabled. Vaseline is an inert oil, it will not generally react unfavorably with our skin. It can provide a similar effect to antibiotics in that the seal created by Vaseline, can let some of the bodies repair functions concentrate on things only our body can fix. The bottom line though is, If you're on a good thing, Stick to it, If it ain't broke don't fix it, and the fact that it can works means can be added... pokkets, you may be right. My comment may scare CrazyRedHead or others who maybe using Vaseline for a while. Stick to what's good for you but be open for other options. Jojoba oil does the same thing, and its very close to our natural skin serum. "Nappy rash"....that took me a second. :~) Going to go get me a new jar. Quoted from the Environmental Working Group site: Petrolatum - Impurities in Petroleum Jelly or commonly known as Vaseline, under suspicion as a carcinogen in Breast Cancer - Petrolatum Banned in products in the EU - Long term damage to health becoming evident - side effects from impurities in the manufacturing process implicated in causing cancer! Maybe it helps with "nappy rash" and dry skin, but I'd rather go with a non-petroleum based product! Interesting, though! It's funny that there is concern that Vaseline may be dangerous being a petroleum product. Petrol is organic. (I just thought I'd throw that in, ask a chemist what organic really means.) Really, with all of the exhaust fumes we inhale, we should worry about Vaseline? Re: Really, with all of the exhaust fumes we inhale, we should worry about Vaseline? " pokkets, we might as well start smoking, drinking, ...don't you think so? BTW, how i can qoute a qoute (placing the qouted words inside the gray box)? BTW, how i can qoute a qoute (placing the qouted words inside the gray box)?Cut the text of what you want to quote. Go to the "Text Editor" option. Paste the text, then hit the " button. Warning: do not put Vaseline on Burns, they will overheat.Do not stick up your nose, or it may disable the dust filter, and be inhaled and deposited in the lungs, Do not use with Latex as it will weaken. This has been known for years, and is not a joke.(See Wikki) I try to have a sense of humor, without always making a joke clear. Many a true word is spoken in jest, but it can also provoke an productive discussion in that both sides can find a common ground in what they disagree about, and sometimes a short attention span can mean I go off on a tangent. Yes I smoke, but I gave up drinking, because it was going to kill me quicker. I may have blinkers on, but where I live there is Botany Bay o... wiccantexan, thanks for the tip.
