n2sooners says: Is the use of sexual slang against those who you oppose politically now tolerated behavior on Clipmarks? Theses are just some of the clips with the term used in the title. Didn't the President decry the coarse-ing of America? N2, I was just thinking about this the other day. I think the term is used so often people don't realize what it really means. I still hate reading it on CM every day on so many clips, but I wonder how many CM users really know the gross definition or even why people started using that term for tea parties. It detracts from the message they are trying to convey. I am far less likely to read clips with that word in the title because its use suggests that only mockery lies within instead of something that might enlighten me or change my mind or even provide facts I could use. I've read that tea party activists were just asking for it by choosing that name. That seems a pretty thin excuse, but I doubt anyone on this site would really like to read the word "ball-licker" on 20 clip titles a day. But, I've been wrong before. Maybe they would. I agree with Mousie. +2 I think most know damn well what they are talking about, and the media that got the use of this phrase rolling knew what it was all about as well. Anderson Cooper: "It's hard to talk when you're teabagging." http://bit.ly/hA7fK David Shuster on MSNBC just couldn't keep his mind off sucking balls. http://bit.ly/Q8irl Maddow just loved using the word teabag and made all the sick jokes as well. Do you really expect me to believe that a majority of those on the left using the term don't know what it means? i think those people in the main stream media know what it means. what i'm not as confident about is whether the people who watch those people and then use the term themselves know what it means. Yes, that is what I meant too, Eric. http://bit.ly/o4EIl Two of the worst offenders commented on that clip. Kinda hard for them to claim ignorance. And this is part ofJackieDel is right--it really was rednecks vs Obama. a comment from gingembre on one of JackieDel's clips. As for teabagging, from what I saw most of the men present at the protest hadn't been able to see their bags for years, let alone maneuver them, so perhaps we are giving them more credit than they are due.I stand by my belief that MOST of those who throw the term around frequently do so because they know exactly what it means. Back to the big question, is that acceptable behavior here on Clipmarks? In exchange, you agree not to: (5) use the Site or Software to violate any laws or terms of use of any third party web sites, or (6) post Mature content without Tagging it as such.http://clipmarks.com/eula/ The term is at the very least mature content, although since it is being used against those who aren't actually doing what it describes, it seems to me it is more of an offensive personal attack. Sure, socialist, communist, right wing extremist, neocon, fascist, nazi, brown shirt, and many other terms like those are frequently thrown around in political discussions, at least those are related or somewhat related to politics. P.S. Sometimes my characters remaining count doesn't go down and sometimes it does. Never have figured out why. You make some good points, N2. Thanks again for this clip. n2, no i don't believe it's appropriate commentary for clipmarks. unfortunately, i think that way too much of the commentary on this site is beyond the bounds of what i deem appropriate (or at least desired). and believe me, it upsets me very much. not just for clipmarks sake, but because it suggests to me that people are way too hostile towards others who don't see the world as they do. that said, i admit that i have had to compromise some of my ideals as i have become convinced that there is no other way for clipmarks to exist. and i still believe strongly in the ability of clipmarks to be a place where people learn, grow and change for the better. i should also say that for a web ... Define mature, n2. I know it's in your conservative blood to want to do so. You'd control anybodys speech on "moral" grounds you could, given the chance. Your argument is specious, hewing true to exactly the notion mousie expressed, "asking for it"; you got it and now you get to cry like a baby about it as the strawman martyr. What a crock. There's another allusion for you to cry about as your precious god-fearing decorum erodes an extra nanometer. I'm certain an extra 20 or so ten year olds will now lead a life of crime and despair for me having sunk so low. But, I've been wrong before. Maybe they wouldGood heavens, Bear. I guess I was wrong. I know we have passionate debates on CM, and certain clippers take great efforts to insult each other at the drop of a hat, however, not everyone on CM hurls insults. And I was hoping that Clippers could make their points of view heard without adding to the trash that's already here. But I now suspect that my "precious god-fearing decorum" is an enormous hindrance to other Clippers' ability to express themselves freely. Even though I get my mail delivered here, I am still surprised at the size of the rock I live under. You'd control anybodys speech on "moral" grounds you could, given the chance.Nothing moral about it, just a question of how low can you go. Eric has a point that the political discourse here is generally better than other places on the web, and that is the atmosphere I would like to keep. I would just like to keep the name calling in the realm of the political sphere. But it seems you support the view that you should be allowed to call those whose politics you don't like any name under the sun. Why, then, don't you have the common courtesy to change your clip title, n2? Because your strawman argument would have no fire without being the offensive jackass you are if y... |
