Why is it that, when we are told repeatedly by our "leaders" that we can't afford education or health care for our highly taxed citizens, that we are expected to continually pay over & over for stupidity and those that have no respect for others?

Criminals - are entitled to legal aid, without limits, without any expectation of repayment or even a deductible minimum. Criminals can (and do) stand in front of judges on their 100th criminal charge and claim their innocence, demand a trial by jury and cause dozens of regular working people to sit through their free (to them / expensive to you) lawyer's ramblings in the hope that someone involved in their prosecution made a mistake and gets them off. Imagine how many hospital beds could have been provided, how many classrooms, how many children could have been helped, not to mention the countless other honest citizens could have been assisted with that money, what it was intended for.
