A remarkably bitter take on the "top ten stories of the last decade" -- in short, we're hosed
enbar
by enbar  Yesterday 11:51 PM
The last paragraph is worth quoting in full: "The meaninglessness of elections: This is the most embittering revelation of all. Despite the greatest electoral majority since Johnson crushed Goldwater in '64, Obama has betrayed everything he ran on. In every case where he had the opportunity to confront power " in financial bailouts, financial regulation, health care, wars and military spending, utilities and global warming, national surveillance " Obama has sided with the rich and powerful against the interests of the American people. He has probably engendered more cynicism, more disaffection with government than any president since Richard Nixon. It will deal a staggering blow to the hopes of mobilizing masses of people again for a real takeback of government. And he's not even one year into it."

Ireland imposes new blasphemy law
blackroseheart
by blackroseheart  Yesterday 3:02 AM
I'm reposting this far and wide. I wonder if they realize that this goes both ways. Now you'll have Xtians and Muslims and Buddhists and Catholics all being given a fine, because they all blaspheme each other! LOL Priceless!! All we have to do is get all atheists to shush up for just a little while, and watch the hilarity ensue! Then when they're all bankrupt from fines (and most likely jail time for not being able to pay those fines, eventually), THEN us atheists can rise up and call them ALL on being the biggest idiots to walk the Earth!

Certified Pet Therapy: Dogs visiting the sick and injured at hospitals +PICS

by clip-on-tie  Yesterday 7:32 PM    4
She said of Richelle: "That was the happiest I've seen her." I've seen one dog at a hospital near my home, visiting the cancer center, which got me hunting for articles. The elderly patients love the visits just as much as the kids. It's a remarkable thing what these pets do for the patients. Such a great idea, cost very little -. a win situation any way you look at it.

Some Aloha State Natives are Blaming Obama In Part for Visitors Slump
merrie
by merrie  Yesterday 8:33 PM    1
Hawaii no longer an economic paradise ..... Some residents blame the visiting President Obama. “We’re losing the group business that’s either canceled due to economic reasons or concerns about being seen as a company going to Hawaii,” said Keith Vieira, senior vice president and director of operations for Starwood Hotels & Resorts in Hawaii and French Polynesia. Some Hawaiians are underwhelmed by the return of their native son. In the scruffy town of Wahiawa on Oahu, far from the beaches and fancy hotels, some locals waiting by a pawnshop for the bus were decidedly ambivalent about the president. “It’s not good here " there are no jobs,” said Hu Toelupe, who said she didn’t expect to see the president and didn’t care if she missed him. Dr. North's One Man Crusade To Expose Corruption (undated and bumped)
merrie
by merrie  Today 3:19 AM    2
If it were otherwise, it would be a massive conflict of interest the likes of which would be tortious were the IPCC a U.S. corporation. And were the IPCC a U.S. governmental organization, acting under such a pecuniary conflict of interest would likely be a crime under 18 U.S.C 208. As bad as Al Gore is - he has made over $100 million if not much, much more in the past decade shilling for global warming - at least he holds no official position by which he can directly effect how AGW (anthropogenic global warming) science is portrayed and how it is pursued at the international level. But what if the Chairman of the UN's IPCC held every bit as much a stake in pushing the theory of AGW as Al Gore? Something would really stink in Denmark then. And that something would be Rajendra Pachauri, the UN's IPCC Chairman.
